My daughter Amelia has always loved animals.

She is wild and intense by nature, but she is also incredibly creative. She experiences the world boldly, with a personality that refuses to quietly blend into the background.

And she loves cheetah print.

Except Amelia doesn’t call it cheetah print.

She calls it “bacheetah.”

She wears her bacheetah proudly—and now our entire family calls it that too. Somewhere along the way, her made-up word became part of our family language.

I love that about children.

They don’t always accept the world exactly as it is handed to them. They rename it. Reimagine it. Add color to it. And if we give them enough room, they invite the rest of us into the world they’ve created.

As adults, we sometimes spend so much energy trying to make ourselves smaller, quieter, or more acceptable. We hide the parts of ourselves that feel wild or intense because we’ve been taught that fitting in is safer than standing out.

But Amelia doesn’t apologize for her bacheetah.

She wears it proudly.

Her confidence reminds me that our strongest qualities are not always the parts of us that need to be softened. Sometimes they are the very parts that need to be understood, guided, and celebrated.

That is something I think about in chiropractic care too. Every person—and every animal—has a unique way of moving through the world. The goal isn’t to force every body into the same mold. It’s to support each individual so they can function and express themselves as fully as possible.

Maybe we all need a little more bacheetah in our lives: something joyful, bold, and completely our own.

And maybe the people who truly love us will learn to call it bacheetah too.
