A year ago, we went to the shelter and met a tiny, seven-week-old gray tabby kitten named Jacques.

We were told that he had a broken leg.
Because he was so young and potentially injured, the shelter would only allow me to handle him because I am an animal chiropractor. The moment I held him, I knew there was something special about this little kitten.
In fact, Jacques received his very first adjustment while we were still sitting in the shelter’s waiting room, completing the paperwork to bring him home.
It was the beginning of both his care and his life as part of our family.
I adjusted him a few more times after we brought him home. Before long, he was running, playing, and behaving like a happy little kitten.
We never had confirmation of exactly what had happened to his leg, so I would never claim that chiropractic care healed a fracture. Suspected fractures require proper veterinary evaluation and care. What I can say is that Jacques responded beautifully to gentle, age-appropriate chiropractic care and quickly began moving with greater comfort and ease.
Today, Jacques is one year old.
He is no longer the tiny, vulnerable kitten waiting at the shelter with an uncertain future. He is playful, loved, and very much a part of our family.
Sometimes an animal enters your life because you believe you are rescuing them.
But over time, their presence becomes so woven into the life of your family that you can no longer imagine your home without them.
Jacques’s story began with a questionable leg, an adjustment in a shelter waiting room, and a stack of adoption paperwork.
One year later, it has become a story of movement, belonging, and a little gray tabby finding exactly where he was meant to be.
Happy first birthday, Jacques.
